The Tacoma Trim Models

The fresh new Toyota Tacoma is available in six levels of trim model. All of which have the option of either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain, except the four-wheel-drive only top trim Tacoma, the TDR Pro.

Here are the five Toyota Tacoma models:

• Tacoma SR
• SR5
• TRD Sport
• TRD Off-road
• Limited
• TRD Pro

The SR and SR5 are the only two Tacoma models available with a choice between two motors. One is a 2.7 four-cylinder engine with 159 horsepower 180 pounds per foot of torque. The beefier option is the 3.5 V6, pumping out 278 horsepower and the capability of 278 pounds per foot of torque. The V6 is the only motor available in the other Tacoma trims.

The standard transmission for all Tacoma is a six-speed automatic, although some models have a manual transmission option. Also, a long, six-foot, or a short, five-foot wheelbase can be equipped with either a double cab with four doors or a standard cab with two doors (known as an access cab) on all but two of the Tacoma's trim levels.

Both the Tacoma Limited and TRD Pro are manufactured exclusively with an all-wheel-drive suspension, a double cab, and a five-foot bed. The difference in the two models' powertrain setup is in the transmission options. An automatic or manual six-speed transmission is available in the TRD Pro, whereas the Limited model is only offered with an automatic. The only other Tacoma trim that has the manual six-speed as an available choice is the TRD Off-road.

Where the truck's powertrain is concerned, the elements differentiating one Tacoma model from the next might be seemingly subtle or even barely noticeable at all. However, many additional variations are found among each Tacoma model, both along the truck's exterior and throughout its cab. These include wheel and tire size or the finish on the side mirrors, bumpers, and grille outside the cab. Inside, the majority of upgraded differences are found in comfort, convenience, and entertainment features.
