A transfer case is one of the many components of a car, which allows the driver to use its drivetrain from a multi-powered axle vehicle to switch the power from a transmission to either or both axles with the drive shafts.

Transfer cases also synchronize the different rotation of both tire sets while containing a varying number of low range gears for all-terrain use. These actions are done possible with the use of gears, hydraulics, or a chain drive; the driver can control the vehicle with a two-wheel-drive mode or a four-wheel-drive mode. To access these modes, the driver uses a shifter to go to either mode or even go for a more electronic method with a switch. One of the aspects of a transfer case includes locking either drive shaft if it's needed to go on an off-road terrain, which is a feature vehicles like the Jeep use, for example.
