Are You Aware of Move Over Laws in Your State?

600 × 463?

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, over 150 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty in the United States after being struck by vehicles on the side of a highway since 1997. This is one reason why all 50 states have enacted what is known as slow down or move over laws. A shocking percentage of Americans are not aware of these laws.

Here at Ramey Toyota, we want to make sure that you're aware of these laws to help not just save lives, but save you legal trouble. If you see an emergency vehicle, law enforcement officer, ambulance, or tow truck on the side of the road with their emergency flashers on, it's a requirement by law in all 50 states that you either slow down to 15 miles per hour below the posted speed limit if you are unable to merge. However, when you are able to merge, you are required to do so. As always, we wish you safe travels and this is just one way we hope to help you stay safe while on the road.
